Life-force energy is the vital energy that is present in all living things: it is the energy that sustains all life, and without it, everything dies. The life-force energy is responsible for all physical functions within all living things, such as healing, respiration, digestion, photosynthesis, and so on. Basically, life-force energy is the energy that keeps all living things alive.
The Ancient Egyptians referred to the life-force energy as Heka. When discussing the Egyptian concept of Heka, Jacco Dieleman, in the book, Guide to the Study of Ancient Magic (Religions in the Graeco-Roman World), writes that the ancient Egyptians believed that Heka is a “creative force that makes the ordered world possible. As vital energy, it permeates the cosmos, enables the cycles of nature, and animates all that lives and grows from within…Heka is the Egyptian term for what was believed to be a primordial, natural force that the creator-god applied in creating the ordered world and that continues to sustain the regeneration of the life-giving cycles of nature.”
In the ancient world, the Egyptian idea that the creator-god used the life-force energy to create the world was widely supported. It was said that the creator-god only thought about the world, and the life-force is what brought that thought into living expression. In other words, the creator first held the world as a perfect idea within divine consciousness, and the life-force was the living power that gave that idea physical form and existence. The thought was the blueprint, but the life-force was the energy that made the blueprint alive.
It was even widely agreed that the life-force powered human thoughts and desires. When one strongly desires something or thinks about it deeply, the life-force energy ensures that it becomes physical. The life-force energy is thus the invisible bridge between consciousness and manifestation: the living power that moves an idea from the realm of thought into the realm of form.
It is the energy that powers the thoughts of man and the thoughts of the gods. It is a sacred, powerful, divine energy within the gods and us.
At a deeper level, this life-force energy is sexual energy. In fact, in many spiritual traditions, life-force energy is considered the same as sexual energy simply because sexual energy creates life. It carries the power through which existence renews itself, allowing life to continue from one generation to the next.
Because sexual energy is life-force energy in its creative form, and semen is the physical substance that carries this life-creating power, semen has always been seen as the most concentrated form of life-force energy. It is life-force condensed into seed form: semen is the physical point where the vital energy that sustains all life is found in its densest state.
Semen is, therefore, our life-force.
This is why semen retention is a powerful practice. By retaining semen, one accumulates the powerful life-force energy that has existed since the beginning of time: a universal energy that organizes matter into living things and pulses through the whole of nature. Semen retention allows one to accumulate this force that is behind the growth in plants and movement in animals: the force that causes a seed to crack open the earth and grow into a towering tree, the force that ensures that a single cell develops into a fully formed breathing conscious being.
For this reason, semen retention is not just about retaining a physical substance: it’s also about taking conscious ownership of a cosmic energy that flows through man.
Semen retention is not only about self-denial. It’s also about the desire to experience a greater possibility. It’s understanding that sexual pleasure is nothing compared to the direct experience of the power of accumulated life-force energy. It’s the desire to consciously taste and experience the power of life-force energy: the energy that turns the food we eat into our human bodies. To retain semen is to become increasingly aware of this force by feeling it as a real inner power rather than just knowing about it theoretically.
This is why in ancient India, semen retention was often referred to as Brahmacharya. Brahmacharya means “conduct consistent with Brahman” or “walking in the path of Brahman.” Brahman is the Hindu name that means ultimate reality, unchanging absolute spirit, the fundamental essence of the universe, or immanent presence in all beings. It seems that ancient Indians, who were known for practicing strict celibacy in thought, word, and deed, found that retaining semen ensures that one experiences Brahman or God-consciousness. Maybe this is why they referred to semen retention as Brahmacharya, which means “moving into infinity”.
When I practiced semen retention for more than a year, I experienced something similar to Brahman, but I would like to call this experience god-consciousness. I became aware of divine presence and influence in my life as it became clear that something powerful was guiding me to my destined life.
This experience of Brahman or god-consciousness occurs when you practice semen retention because you accumulate the life-force energy, which, like Brahman, animates and permeates the entire universe.
Therefore, semen retention is not just about sexual abstinence; it is a sacred discipline that allows one to experience the greatness of the life-force energy flowing through him and the entire universe.
